NATA-Traceable Biomedical Equipment Calibration

FWC Calibration performs NATA-traceable calibration and performance verification on the biomedical equipment that hospitals, day-surgery centres, pathology labs, aged care providers, and private clinics rely on every day. Across NSW, ACT, VIC, and the Northern Territory, we deliver the documentation needed for AS/NZS 3551 compliance, accreditation audits, and clinical governance.

Biomedical equipment we calibrate

  • Patient monitoring — multi-parameter monitors, ECG machines, pulse oximeters, NIBP modules, capnography
  • Cardiac — defibrillators (manual and AED), external pacemakers, ECG diagnostic
  • Infusion — infusion pumps, syringe drivers, PCA pumps, enteral pumps
  • Respiratory — ventilators (basic functional verification), CPAP/BiPAP, anaesthetic gas analysers
  • Diagnostic — ultrasound, audiometers, spirometers, tympanometers
  • Sterilisation and storage — autoclaves, bench-top sterilisers, blood banks, vaccine fridges, controlled-temperature storage
  • Electrical safety — patient leakage testing, isolated power supply verification per AS/NZS 3551
  • Laboratory — centrifuges (RPM and temperature), pipettes, balances, pH meters

Calibration and performance verification methodology

  1. Pre-test inspection — physical condition, accessories, function check
  2. Electrical safety test — earth bond, insulation, leakage currents per AS/NZS 3551
  3. Performance verification — functional parameters tested against manufacturer specifications and NATA-traceable reference standards
  4. Defect reporting — any out-of-tolerance result is documented with as-found readings
  5. Certification — NATA-traceable certificate plus AS/NZS 3551 electrical safety certificate if applicable

On-site biomedical calibration

Hospitals and clinics rarely have the option of sending equipment off-site for calibration. Our mobile units carry patient simulators, defibrillator analysers, infusion pump analysers, electrical safety analysers, ventilator testers, and temperature reference loggers for storage units. Most biomedical calibration jobs are completed during a single site visit — with after-hours and weekend visits available for critical equipment.

Compliance frameworks we support

  • AS/NZS 3551 — Management programs for medical equipment
  • ACHS / NSQHS standards — National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards
  • TGA conformity — performance verification documentation
  • ISO 13485 — medical device quality management
  • Aged care quality standards — equipment safety and performance

Turnaround

  • On-site (Sydney metro / ACT): within 5 business days; same-week for clinical-urgent work
  • On-site (VIC / NT): within 7-10 business days
  • Express lab turnaround: 24-48 hours when scheduled in advance
  • After-hours and weekend visits: available by arrangement
  • Emergency callouts: 0409 663 566

Biomedical calibration FAQ

Do you provide AS/NZS 3551 electrical safety testing as part of calibration?

Yes. Most biomedical equipment receives both electrical safety testing and performance verification in the same visit.

Can you handle a full hospital biomedical asset list?

Yes. We work with hospitals on rolling calibration schedules covering hundreds to thousands of assets, integrating with your asset management system.

Are defibrillators included in your scope?

Yes. We perform full output, energy delivery, and ECG performance testing on manual and automated external defibrillators using NATA-traceable defibrillator analysers.

Do you provide a service that satisfies aged care quality audit requirements?

Yes. Aged care facilities are a regular part of our client base.
